Q: Why do I need socket preservation after extraction?
A: It prevents bone loss, helps preserve natural jawbone foundation for future restoration like implant, bridge and denture.
Q: Will it hurt when the dentist inserts the Alvelac™ into my extraction socket?
A: No, not at all.
Q: Can I have the Alvelac™ inserted a few months after tooth extraction or must it be done immediately?
A: The purpose of Alvelac™ is to help preserve jawbone and is effective only if inserted immediately after tooth extraction.
Q: What instructions do I need to pay attention to after the Alvelac™ is inserted?
A:
- For the first 24 hours, limit yourself to calm activities to keep your blood pressure lower so as not to increase the bleeding and to help in the healing process.
- For the first 24-48 hours, you should maintain a diet of soft foods. Hot spicy foods should also be avoided to prevent irritation and burns of the extraction site.
- Do not smoke or use tobacco products or drink alcohol for at least 72 hours after tooth extraction because it will interfere with healing and may promote bleeding.
- No vigorous rinsing and drinking of hot drinks for at least 2 days after extraction.
- Not to chew on the affected area for at least 2 weeks
- Keep wound clean by rinsing mouth gently especially after meals
- Not to brush at or near extraction site for at least 4 days but instead to rinse with mouthwash twice or thrice a day for two weeks.
